Ghana Dump

I was reading about e-waste, which is the all the computer and electronic equipment that gets discarded after an upgrade, and it made me curious, because it’s a problem that needs to be addressed more effectively, since e-waste will only increase as time goes on. I spent a little time reading up on it.

This article in particular caught my attention, about computers and various waste from developed countries being sent to pile up and pollute.

I think it’s a process that is not regulated enough. I’m sure there are laws governing proper disposal and recycling of computer waste, but it seems that people still just go around those laws. Part of me wonders if the excuse for shipping them there in the first place was under the guise of giving computers to poor and underpriveleged schools or communities in Africa. That part of me also wonders how much junk is shipped there under the guise of charity and never used.

Food for thought.

P.S. I’m sure Molly will be disapponted that she didn’t get to those free moon boots first.
